Audio Solutions Question of the Week: How Do I Restring the AT8410a Shock Mount?

Question: How do I restring the AT8410a shock mount?

Answer: Over time you may find that the elastic on your AT8410a shock mount has lost some strength and is no longer providing a firm and secure hold. To remedy this you will need a restring kit, which can be purchased here on the Audio-Technica website. While this kit will have most of the materials needed to restring the mount, you will additionally need a small Phillips-head screwdriver and needle-nose pliers. Once you’ve received the replacement elastic, follow the steps below to restring your AT8410a shock mount and bring it back to life.

  1. Examine how the elastic holds the basket, then remove the elastic from the basket and frame.
  2. Loosen, but do not remove, the 6 small Phillips-head screws around the frame of the mount.Audio Solutions Question of the Week: How Do I Restring the AT8410a Shock Mount? 1
  3. Feed the new elastic through the guides at the top of the frame. Then, with the needle-nose pliers, crimp the loose ends of the elastic with the metal holder provided with the kit.Audio Solutions Question of the Week: How Do I Restring the AT8410a Shock Mount? 2Audio Solutions Question of the Week: How Do I Restring the AT8410a Shock Mount? 3
  4. Adjust the elastic until one loop is slightly longer than the other (as the front of the basket will need more length) and retighten the screws.Audio Solutions Question of the Week: How Do I Restring the AT8410a Shock Mount? 4
  5. Place the basket inside the frame so that the clamp is on the side with the larger elastic loop. Loop the elastic through the 6 hooks (3 each on left and right side) on both the front and back of the basket.Audio Solutions Question of the Week: How Do I Restring the AT8410a Shock Mount? 5
