Audio Solutions Question of the Week: How Do I Link the 3000 Series Battery Chargers?

Question: How do I link the 3000 Series battery chargers?

Answer: The ATW-CHG3 (non-networked) and ATW-CHG3N (networked) charging stations may be linked together, allowing them to share a power supply and pass data. We previously discussed what chargers and components are needed to properly link up to five chargers. You may either link one ATW-CHG3N networked charger with up to four ATW-CHG3 chargers, or link up to five ATW-CHG3 chargers together.

Audio Solutions Question of the Week: How Do I Link the 3000 Series Battery Chargers?

Depending on what components you have purchased, the AT8688 Link Kit may be included or available separately. The link kit includes:

  • (1) Link cable
  • (1) Link plate
  • (4) Plate screws

The AS-SA1230XA AC adapter may be routed through the cable relief and connected to the DC input jack on the bottom of the first charger in the chain. The power will then be supplied to the additional four chargers when linked together with the link cables. When using an ATW-CHG3N networked charger, it will be the first unit in the chain.

The DC Link jacks are located on the bottom of the chargers. Remove the DC Link caps to access the jacks. The ATW-CHG3 (non-networked) has both DC IN and DC OUT jacks, whereas the ATW-CHG3N (networked) only has a DC OUT jack. This is due to only needing one networked charger in a chain (the networked charger always being first in the chain). The link cable will be connected from the DC OUT jack on the bottom of the first charger in the chain to the DC IN jack on the next. When connecting the link cable, be certain the connections are properly aligned and fully seated.

The ID selector switches will also need to be set on all the linked chargers if you are using an ATW-CHG3N networked charger. Again, the networked charger is always first in the chain so it does not have an ID selector switch – its ID is automatically designated as #1. The ID selector switch on the ATW-CHG3 is located on the bottom of the charger near the DC OUT jack. The second charger in the chain should be set to ID #2, the third should be set to ID #3, and so on, for a total of up to five chargers. Be certain each charger in the linked chain has a unique ID number. If you are linking only ATW-CHG3 non-networked chargers, you do not need to set ID numbers.

Once the link cables and ID selector switches have been properly set, you may then use the link plate to secure the chargers together.
