History of the Audio-Technica Logo: Then and Now

The Audio-Technica logo has gone through a series of revisions over the years, but it has always remained true to the original concept of our brand image. Take a look back at how our logo originated and how it has transformed throughout the years.

History of the Audio-Technica Logo: Then and Now

The first design of the A-T logo dates back to the time of the company’s establishment in 1962. The A-T logo is sometimes referred to as “the meatball.” The circle represents a vinyl phonograph record, while the two triangles represent a phonograph needle and the letter A for Audio-Technica. The simplicity of the logomark design symbolizes the brand’s transparency and purity. The gaps between the perfect circle and the points of the triangle are extremely narrow, expressing the precision engineering that goes into our products.

History of the Audio-Technica Logo: Then and Now

From 1962 to around 1964, the logo had a black circular background with white triangles that were revised slightly each year. In 1964, the black circle was slimmed to a black oval visible through white-lined triangles, and all ringed by a black-lined circle. Around 1965, the black fill was removed altogether, leaving only the lines of the logo, generally rendered in black or white, that could be used over backgrounds of various colors. A-T upgraded the logo around 1969 by bolding the lines of the design. The current version of the logo presents a wider triangular base and slimmer lines.

Although the modifications to the logo throughout the years may seem slight, the evolving design has helped Audio-Technica remain one of the most distinctive brands in the audio industry.
