Earlier this year, Melodic Distraction teamed up with Audio-Technica and Manchester-based listening bar, NAM, to bring four days of live radio to Gottwood Festival.

The documentary captures the journey of running a live radio station from the middle of one of the UK’s most respected electronic music festivals. Delving into the intricacies of establishing and managing a radio station from a remote corner of North Wales, the film follows the Melodic Distraction and NAM teams as they set up and deliver over 50 hours of broadcasting in four days.

Sets across the weekend featured performances by Conducta, Ruf Dug, Crazy P, Jay Carder B2B Trieste, Scarlett O’Malley, Adam Pits, Dowd, Outhouse Sounds, Zuku and a whole host of Liverpool and Manchester locals. All sets from across the weekend can be revisited via Melodic Distraction’s Mixcloud page.

Powered by Audio-Technica, the project saw Melodic Distraction convert a 40ft shipping container into a radio studio - using Audio-Technica Direct Drive Turntables, needles and carts, microphones, and turntable weights. The radio station also served as a stage, with NAM providing a vintage JBL hifi soundsystem.

"We were thrilled to bring this collaboration between Audio-Technica, Melodic Distraction and NAM to life. It means a lot when brands like A-T are invested in making independent ideas happen!” - Josh Aitman, Melodic Distraction.

“Not only was everyone playing tunes that they love, but they were absolutely bringing their A-game. Seeing radio played out to an in-person audience in real time is something you don’t often get and that made it really special.” - Beth Harris, Producer, Melodic Distraction.

“It’s almost like every festival should have a Melodic Distraction set up somewhere” - Dig This (Zuku).

The documentary released on Thursday, 27th of July on Melodic Distraction’s YouTube Channel.
